2022-2025 Overseas Flagship Chinese Capstone Program in Taiwan Flagship Grant Competition

 The Language Flagship is seeking proposals from U.S. Institutions of Higher Education to develop and implement an Overseas Flagship Chinese Capstone Program in Taiwan for a 2022-2025 three-year award period. Applicants may propose singly or propose consortial arrangements with other IHE’s and / or partner with study abroad providers in developing overseas programming elements. The goal of this effort is to develop an intensive immersive Chinese language program that includes directed language instruction, direct enrollment opportunities at a Taiwanese host university and meaningful professional internships that ensure Flagship students will meet the Flagship proficiency targets of ILR 3/2+/2+. Proposals are due by 4:30 p.m. (EST) on November 4, 2021.

Chinese Flagship Culture Initiative 

The Language Flagship is seeking proposals from current undergraduate domestic Flagship programs to develop a Chinese Flagship Culture Initiative. The main goal of this initiative is to develop openly accessible online Chinese culture materials that would be integrated into the program design of the Chinese Flagship programs and would also be available as a resource to the field. Proposals are due by 4:30 p.m. (EST) on Thursday, July 1, 2021.

The Language Flagship will host a technical assistance webinar on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. To register for the webinar, please send an email to flagship@iie.org. Advance questions are due by Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

Teacher Training Workshop Series: Flagship Student Videos

The Language Flagship is seeking proposals to develop Flagship Teacher Training Workshops and modules. These workshops and modules must focus on understanding the advanced levels of language proficiency; and how to move students from the intermediate to the advanced and professional levels of language proficiency. The successful applicant will utilize videos from the Flagship Video Project as a core aspect of the training. More information on how to access the videos is provided within the solicitation.

This solicitation to create in-person and/or virtual professional development opportunities is open to Institutions of Higher Education that currently host a Flagship Domestic Program. Proposals are due at 4:30 p.m. (ET), Friday, March 5, 2021.

Flagship Teacher Training Workshops

The Language Flagship is announcing a competition to develop and conduct Flagship Teacher Training Workshops. This competition is open to currently-funded Language Flagship programs and Flagship Language Initiatives .The goal of these workshops is to provide professional development opportunities to the community of Language Flagship faculty, lecturers, instructors, language partners and other long-term staff that directly provide foreign language training or support to Flagship students. Workshops should also provide opportunities for the participation of ROTC Project Global Officer (Project GO), Language Training Centers, Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC), and teachers in other federal language training programs.

This competition will not have a webinar. Key dates to keep in mind are that RFP questions should be sent by or on October 23, 2020, the Application Submission date is November 13, 2020, and we anticipate a January 1, 2020 Grant start date.

2021-2023 African Flagship Languages Initiative

The Language Flagship is seeking proposals from U.S. institutions of higher education for the development and implementation of the African Flagship Languages Initiative to provide domestic intensive summer language instruction, followed by fall overseas language instruction in Akan/Twi, French, Swahili, Wolof and Zulu at a variety of levels. Proposals are due by 4:30 p.m. (ET) on September 30, 2020. The competition will be for a three-year grant award.

The Language Flagship is seeking proposals from U.S. institutions of higher education (IHEs) to develop a Domestic Undergraduate Korean Language Flagship Program or a domestic and overseas undergraduate Korean Flagship program. This solicitation is open to U.S. IHEs with existing Korean language programs and demonstrated experience delivering high-quality undergraduate Korean language instruction. Proposals are due by 4:30 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. The applicaiton guidelines for this competition were updated on 09/09/2019 to allow for an increase in overseas budget proposals from $325,000 to $400,000.

Flagship Technology Innovation Center

The Language Flagship is seeking proposals from U.S. institutions of higher education (IHEs) to continue work on The Language Flagship Technology Innovation Center.  The primary goal of the Language Flagship Technology Center is to outline clear strategies to support the entire Flagship Program in the exploration and implementation of innovative approaches to language learning across Flagship. This solicitation is open only to U.S. institutions of higher education (IHEs) with existing Flagship Programs in the aforementioned languages that will work with secondary and/or community college partners to increase articulation between their institutions and existing Flagship institutions.
