Applying to a Flagship Program

For high school students who have yet to apply to college.

  1. Choose the Flagship language you want to study: Arabic, Chinese, Hindi Urdu, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Swahili or Turkish.
  2. After choosing the Flagship language, review the list of Flagship universities offering your selected language. Then, check for the degree programs in which you are interested, and decide which school and Flagship program are the best fit for you.
  3. Contact the Flagship program you selected, informing them of your interest. Many of the institutions have pre-Freshman year programs that can give you a jump-start in your studies.
  4. Check the college admissions’ and Flagship program’s deadlines and submit an application to both the university and the Flagship program of your choice. (Although you must enroll in or be enrolled in a Flagship U.S. institution to be eligible for participation in a Flagship program, you can apply to the Flagship program and the university of your choice at the same time.)
  5. Once accepted into the university, notify the Flagship program that you have been admitted. They can guide you through your path to the Flagship program.

For students who have already been accepted at or currently attend a Flagship university.

  1. Contact the Flagship program at the university in which you are currently enrolled and apply directly to that program. (You must enroll in or be enrolled in a Flagship U.S. institution to be eligible for participation in a Flagship program.)

Other eligibility and application requirements vary across Flagship programs. To learn more about a particular program of interest, please visit the institution’s Flagship Web site. Following are lists of The Language Flagship programs and their university admissions Web sites.
